Our success is in YOUR hands

I woke up this morning (2010/01/01) and decided to turn the roles that was being played. Since I started this website some years ago. I was the only one that was creating the products that are offered on this website. Today, that is going to change! Its time for me to hand over the future of this website to YOU, YOU are the one that can lead this site to its success or it downfall.

I therefore, would like to encourage YOU, to start building YOUR own design and to submit it for download on YOUR/MY website. YOUR template will be offered for free download and with a reference to YOUR website or work.

The road to your first design

You are allowed to submit your own self created design as long as it is a table-less, xhtml and CSS based template.

OR:

join us as we follow the footsteps of Zen Gardens who encourages the use of a single html file to create different layouts using one's styled css file.

Today, we must clear the mind of past practices. Web enlightenment has been achieved thanks to the tireless efforts of folks like the W3C, WaSP and the major browser creators.

We at aSimpleTemplate.com invite you to start producing your own designs using our basic files. We encourage you to send them to us. If your design passes our terms and impresses us, it will be offered for free download and usage on our site with reference to your website or work. Learn to use the (yet to be) time-honored techniques in new and invigorating fashion. Become one of US.

Participation

Graphic artists only please. You are modifying this page, so strong CSS skills are necessary, but the example files are commented well enough that even CSS novices can use them as starting points.

You may modify the style sheet in any way you wish, but please, not the HTML. This may seem daunting at first if you've never worked this way before, but after your first design, you will notice that you can do much more with just one Html file ;). There is one exception in which you can modify the Html file though, and that is, if you want to use it personally without the intention of submitting it to us.

Download the sample html file and css file to work on a copy locally. Once you have completed your masterpiece (and please, don't submit half-finished work) and wish to donate it to us. You'll have to Contact us via our site for us to provide you with the details on how to to send us your design.

Why participate?

Why participate? For recognition, inspiration, and a resource we can all use freely. This is sorely needed, even today. More and more people need a css template that is not only free and beautiful but one that also validates as well.

Requirements?

We would like to see as many templates possible and without the Html file being changed. Some changes in the extra DIV's are allowed. Please avoid the use of hacks that might end up breaking your design in the future. aSimpleTemplate.com is about functional, practical CSS and not the latest bleeding-edge tricks. The only real requirement we have is that your CSS validates.

Unfortunately, designing this way highlights the flaws in the various implementations of CSS. Different browsers display differently, even completely valid CSS at times, and this becomes maddening when a fix for one leads to breakage in another. Full browser compliance is still required, but we do not expect you to come up with pixel-perfect code across every platform. But do test in as many as you can. Your design should at least run in IE7 and above, Firefox, opera and Chrome, the rest is important but we can go without them.

File names should not be changed. Please put the css file in a folder called style and don't change the name (default). The html file (index.htm) should be in the root folder.

We ask that you submit original artwork. Please respect copyright laws. Please keep objectionable material to a minimum; tasteful nudity is acceptable, outright pornography will be rejected.

You retain full copyright on your graphics, but we ask you to release your CSS under a Creative Commons license so that others may learn from your work.

Usage of images?

If you would like to use images (Not layout images) on your design, please use the extra Div's we have provided for you at the bottom of our code. Positioning them using absolute positioning would do the job for you.

Layout images can also be used with this technique as well.
